What is Cavela?

Cavela is a curated factory network for consumer brands. We maintain deep, ongoing relationships with a vetted set of manufacturing partners across key production regions — and we use those relationships to match you with the right factory for your product, manage the process end-to-end, and make sure things actually get made right. We're not a search tool or a directory. We're an active partner in your supply chain.

Who is Cavela for?

Cavela is built for consumer brands, product companies, and entrepreneurs who want to manufacture overseas but don't have the time, relationships, or expertise to manage it themselves. Whether you're launching your first product or scaling an existing line, Cavela removes the complexity of international sourcing by handling it on your behalf. Cavela is best for brands making physical consumer goods — especially soft goods like apparel, home textiles, and accessories. We're not the right fit for: beauty/wellness formulations, food, or complex electronics, and we'll tell you early if your product falls outside what we do well.

Getting Started

How does Cavela match me with the right factory?

You submit a product brief — what you want to make, your target price, quantities, and any key requirements. Our team reviews it and draws on our existing factory network to identify the right partner for your specific product, category, and production profile. We're making an active judgment call, not running a keyword search. You get a curated match, not a list to scroll through. Your quote isn't a generic auto-reply. We combine our team's sourcing judgment with data from real, vetted suppliers we already work with — so the match reflects who can actually make your product well, not a keyword guess.

How long does the sourcing process take?

It depends on the product, but here's a rough timeline: factory matching and initial quotes take 3–7 business days, depending on product complexity; sample development runs 2–4 weeks; and production lead times are typically 30–90 days after sample approval. We'll give you a specific timeline estimate once we understand your project.

I don't have a tech pack or specs — can you help?

Yes — we have design partners who know factory requirements and can build a tech pack. Depending on complexity and level of completion, this can range from $500 to $5,000.

I'm not ready to place an order yet — is it worth reaching out?

The best starting point is the RFQ builder. Walk through it with whatever product details you have — it helps us understand what you're making and whether it's a strong fit for what we do well. If it is, and the business looks right, we'll reach out to set up a call. We don't surface quotes or schedule calls for every submission — we're selective about where we invest the time, and we'll tell you quickly if it's not the right fit.

Factories & Quality

How does Cavela vet its factory partners?

Every factory in our network is vetted before we work with them. This includes verifying business licenses and export history, assessing production capacity and quality standards, and in many cases conducting on-site audits. We monitor performance across orders — factories that don't maintain the standard don't stay in the network.

Where are Cavela's factory partners located?

Our network spans multiple countries, with a concentration in China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, and other key manufacturing hubs. We match you to the right region based on your product category, target costs, lead time requirements, and any compliance considerations. We're not limited to overseas production — depending on your product and goals, we can source domestically (including 'Made in USA') and compare quotes across regions side by side with landed costs, so you can weigh cost against lead time and origin.

Will I know which factory is making my product?

Yes. We believe in full transparency. You'll know which factory partner you're working with, their location, and their production capabilities. We don't operate as a black box — our factory relationships are a strength, not a secret.

Does Cavela handle quality control?

Quality is checked in multiple rounds — our own team plus a third-party failsafe — with people on the ground at the factory, inspections mid-production, and a final check before shipping.

How do I communicate with factories?

Think of Cavela as the factory. We negotiate and coordinate within our network and on the factory floor. You communicate with us in plain English; we manage everything on the manufacturing side.

Can Cavela help if I already have a factory relationship?

Yes. If you have an existing supplier but want help with quality control, logistics, or managing communication, we can layer our services on top of your current setup. Get in touch and we'll figure out what makes sense.

Sampling

How does sampling work?

Before any physical sample, we share a digital mockup or proof so we're aligned on materials, branding, and specs. The approved pre-production sample then becomes the standard your bulk order is held to. Sample costs and lead times vary by product — we'll outline them before you commit. Changes after sample approval are handled as a formal change order and may affect cost or timeline.

What if the samples or final products don't meet my expectations?

If the delivered product deviates from your approved sample due to a manufacturing error, we'll make it right — and in cases of clear deviation from what was approved, you may be eligible for a full or partial refund or reshipment.

Pricing & Payment

How much does Cavela cost?

No separate service fee, no platform fee, no subscription. A normal factory quote already includes the factory's own project-management cost — the coordinators and admin who run your order. We have the factory focus on production and replace that layer with our own, leaner one. Because of that, your all-in landed price often lands at or below going factory-direct — and it still covers factory matching, sampling, onsite QA, and freight to your warehouse. What you see is what you get, no add-ons after.

Am I paying factory prices or marked-up prices?

One all-in landed price — no separate added fees. You'll see your full landed cost (product, onsite QA, freight, duties), so you can compare it against going direct with no surprise add-ons. A factory's quote already includes its own coordination and admin cost — the people who run your order. We replace that layer with our own, leaner one. That's why our price lands on par with or below factory-direct, not above it.

What are the minimum order quantities (MOQs)?

MOQs vary by factory and product type — there's no single answer. As a rough guide, they typically run 500–2,000 units. Because we have established relationships with our factory partners, we're often able to negotiate better terms than a brand approaching them cold. We'll always be upfront about the MOQ before you commit to anything.

How does payment work? Is there a deposit?

Payment terms vary — most orders require a deposit upfront with the balance due before shipment. Post-pay terms can be evaluated where applicable, depending on our relationship, the product, factory, and the client's track record. We also offer financing via our partners.

Shipping & Logistics

Does Cavela handle shipping and logistics?

Yes. We coordinate shipping from the factory to your door, including freight forwarding, customs clearance, and delivery. Whether you want sea freight, air freight, or something in between, we'll lay out the options and costs so you can decide. We quote your all-in landed cost — including tariffs/duties and customs clearance — so you can plan against a real delivered number, not just the factory price.

What happens if there's a production delay?

We monitor production timelines closely and flag issues before they become crises. If a delay occurs, we'll communicate it immediately with an updated ETA and, where possible, options to accelerate. We don't go quiet when things get difficult — that's what it means to have a partner, not just a vendor.

Compliance & IP

Do you handle compliance and certification?

We can source against required certifications and testing (e.g. GOTS for organic textiles, CPC for children's products) and provide documentation. How do I protect my designs and intellectual property?

Before sharing detailed specs or designs with any factory partner, we put in place appropriate confidentiality protections — including NDAs and, where relevant, Non-Disclosure, Non-Use, and Non-Circumvention (NNN) agreements governed by the factory's local law. For high-risk designs, we also recommend filing patents or trademarks in the relevant jurisdictions before production begins. We'll guide you through what's appropriate for your situation.

Can a factory copy my product and sell it to someone else?

This is a legitimate concern and one we take seriously. Our factory network is built around long-term relationships — factories that work with us have a strong incentive to maintain their standing in the network, which means protecting the brands they work with. Beyond that, we put legal agreements in place and only bring your project to factories with a track record of discretion and professionalism. We can also sign separate NDAs and NNNs directly with the customer.
