April 10
145% tariff on China: The White House clarified total tariffs imposed on Chinese goods now amount to 145%, combining the new 125% reciprocal tariff with an existing 20% fentanyl-related tariff.
Canada and Mexico spared for now: Canada and Mexico have been spared the 10% base tariffs, the White House confirmed. Base tariffs remain for other countries, besides China.
European tariff reversal: Meanwhile, the European Union suspended its retaliatory tariffs following President Trump’s reversal of the country-specific tariff policy.
April 9
125% tariff announced on China: A steep new tariff has been introduced on Chinese imports, following China’s announcement of a reciprocal 84% tariff on U.S. goods.
90-day moratorium on global tariffs: All country-specific tariffs (except China) have been temporarily replaced by a universal 10% rate. It's still unclear whether this applies to trade with Mexico and Canada.
April 7
Additional tariff threat on China: Trump warns additional 50% tariff on China if it does not withdraw its 34% retaliatory tariff by April 8.
China talks terminated: U.S. suspends tariff negotiations with China; negotiations with other trade partners to proceed.
April 5
10% reciprocal tariffs in effect: Reciprocal tariff of 10% applied universally; exemptions available for goods loaded before April 5 and arriving before May 27, 2025.
April 4
Duty drawback eligibility: Clarification issued on tariffs eligible for duty drawback. Regular, Section 201, Section 301, and reciprocal tariffs eligible; Section 232 and fentanyl tariffs not eligible.
April 3
25% tariff on automobiles: Tariffs applied to imported passenger vehicles, SUVs, minivans, cargo vans, and light trucks.
Auto parts tariffs: 25% tariff applied broadly to imported auto parts effective May 3, 2025.
April 2
"Liberation Day" announcements: President Trump announces reciprocal tariffs (~half rates charged by partners), 10% universal baseline tariff, and elimination of de minimis for China and Hong Kong. Full list below.
Aluminum tariffs expanded: 25% tariff applied to imported beer and empty aluminum cans.
March 27
Automobile tariffs announced: 25% tariff announced on imported automobiles and auto parts, effective April 3.
March 25
Tariff on Venezuelan oil importers: Executive order imposing 25% tariff on countries purchasing Venezuelan oil, effective April 2.
